Renda e peles – Lace and fur

(Scroll down for English)

The only piece that I haven’t made in this outfit is the Mongolian fur vest. Both lace turtleneck top and wide leg, high waist trousers were made last winter, but I didn’t review them for lack of time (I think I was taking some time off from blogging at the time, too). The lace top was made from an old Burda magazine pattern (from the nineties) and the trousers are Vogue 8604; I made them with no alterations except adding rigilene boning to the waist facing so it would keep its form. At the time I also made a mustard yellow jacket made of wool velour to complete the set (I'll show it later).

Capa azul noite feita por mim – DIY Midnight blue cape

(Scroll down for English)
Gostei bastante do resultado destas três peças.

This is the cape I mentioned before here; I made it from a Burda Magazine pattern (from the January 2010 edition, to be exact), altering the pattern by adding the arm vents , aligned vertically by the shoulder point marked on the original pattern. The cape was made of the same stable knit fabric used for the midnight blue set and I really love the outcome of all these three pieces. This cape pattern can easily be adapted for a woven fabric removing the turtleneck collar and adding a front closure of some kind. The overlap can also be eliminated.
The sewing reviews at Couture et Tricot will have to wait because I’m extremely short of time and at this point I’d rather update my readers on the Paco’s jacket construction (probably I won’t have the time to show some progress until the weekend, anyway). The leopard print furry handbag was bought second hand on eBay and I got an excellent deal for it (here where I live and in Portugal in general we lack good thrift stores, but thankfully there’s eBay, Etsy and the Portuguese website Leiloes.net, among others).

Estou mesmo numa de estilo militar - I’m really into the military style

(Scroll down for English)

I’m sorry for the cropped feet on the photo, but I failed to notice that the zoom was on on my camera. The flash light was also on and I kind of like the end result, not bad for an indoor photo.
Once again I’m channeling the military vibe and also relying on some layering (you can see the leather vest I made some time ago and underneath there’s also a green silk distressed t-shirt (with long sleeves). The boots are the same as I wore yesterday but this time I’m wearing them folded down.
My day at the office was really stressful but in the end it all went well and I feel ready for a more relaxed weekend. Thank you all for visiting and commenting, hope you guys have a great weekend!

Vestir por camadas - Layering

(Scroll down for English)

This is the only way of dealing with the wide temperature range weather; early in the morning, at the time this picture was taken, it was 50F or less. A few hours later it’s 71F (the fur vest and the scarf are gone until late in the afternoon, when the temperature starts dropping again).

Conjunto azul noite – Midnight blue set

(Scroll down for English)

I made this sweater and matching leggings the past weekend; there’s also a cape made of this same stable knit fabric, but I didn’t have the time to finish it yet. You have to love this shade of blue; I think it’s really great for a total midnight blue look, still, while the cape isn’t finished, I wore it with my red military look cardigan, which also has some midnight blue accents. I really like how this set has turned out, and most of the credits belong to the knit fabric which has just the right amount of stretch for this design to work as I envisioned. I’ll update this entry when I publish the sewing details at my other blog (first I have something much more interesting to show you there!).

Inspirada em Celine – Celine inspired

(Scroll down for English)

This outfit is inspired in one of my favorite RTW shows ever, the Celine Spring 2010 RTW fashion show. I’ve selected a few of my favorite looks (scroll down to the end of the post, all pictures courtesy of www.style.com). The words of the designer Phoebe Philo sums it up quite well: “I just thought I’d clean it up. Make it strong and powerful – a kind of contemporary minimalism.” This collection comprises elements like the leather tops, sand tones coordinated with black, high-waist garments, all these elements present in today’s look, interpreted for fall.

Saia comprida e colete de pele - Maxi-skirt and leather vest

(Scroll down for English)

This outfit was entirely made by me except for the blue top. You can see more details about the vest here and the maxi-skirt is so easy to make that doesn’t require a review. This type of skirts is a strong trend this year and I fell for them because they create a long fluid silhouette, very elegant and stylish in my opinion. There were several models spotted in the streets wearing this type of skirt during Fashion Week in Paris. The seventy’s inspired boots with huge wood platforms and heels are also a trendy element. Don’t outdoor photos look so much better? Today I was lucky with the rain and was able to take these pictures as I was leaving home to meet up with some friends in Oporto. Hope you like them!

Tons das folhas no Outono – Falling leaves palette

(Scroll down for English)

With rainy weather and poor lighting conditions, it gets harder to take indoor photos with acceptable quality. I really should get an external flash light but they are so expensive… The only workaround is adding lighting effects to the pictures, which I don’t like doing because they don’t look so natural… Outdoor pictures are out of the question while it’s pouring rain, so posting will be scarce while the bad weather lasts…
I’m wearing a sleeveless orange brown dress, fishnet brown tights, a light brown cardigan, a scarf that features all these colors and some more and dark brown suede booties (I must recognize the suede booties are not a good choice for rainy weather, but since I won’t be spending time outdoors, I guess they will do).

A camisa inspirada na “Amon” da ACNE - My DIY ACNE Amon inspired shirt

(Scroll down for English)

I finished my ACNE Amon inspired shirt yesterday (see previous post that shows the original) and I couldn’t resist wearing it right away; I am very pleased with the final result. This oversized shirt features open shoulder seams and a detachable lapel with a long scarf that goes from the left shoulder through behind the collar, falling over the right front. I’ll publish more details at my sewing blog later Click here for more details.
PS – On some photos you can actually see my sewing studio through the glass doors!

Aconchegada - Cozy

(Scroll down for English)

There's nothing like a cotton cardigan to make us feel cozy without becoming too hot for the early fall mild weather. I've own this sweater for quite a few years and always go back to it; I love the asymmetrical front closure and the exposed zippers (notice them on the sleeves too).
